The Responsible Plastic Management (RPM) Program is proud to announce that AG Paving + Building Products has achieved Zero Plastic to Landfill Certification for its Fivemiletown and Toomebridge manufacturing sites.
This achievement marks an important milestone for both AG and the wider manufacturing sector, as the company becomes the first manufacturing company in Northern Ireland to achieve the Responsible Plastic Management (RPM) Program’s Zero Plastic to Landfill Certification. Achieved during Plastic Free July, the certification recognises AG’s commitment to responsible plastic management, sustainable manufacturing and continuous environmental improvement.
Zero Plastic to Landfill Certification is awarded to organisations that can independently demonstrate that 100% of plastic waste generated on certified sites is diverted from landfill through verified recycling and recovery processes. The RPM Program provides organisations with a practical framework to strengthen plastic management by improving waste segregation, increasing recycling and recovery, creating robust audit trails and identifying opportunities to continually improve environmental performance.
Throughout the certification process, AG undertook a comprehensive review of plastic waste generated across both manufacturing facilities. Working in partnership with Skip Services, the company assessed plastic waste streams, validated downstream treatment and recovery routes, and demonstrated that no plastic waste generated from either site is sent to landfill.
By implementing effective waste segregation systems and maximising opportunities for recycling and recovery, AG continues to improve the way plastic is managed across its operations. Plastic materials that cannot currently be recycled are responsibly diverted through approved energy recovery processes, ensuring landfill is avoided while supporting the transition toward a more circular economy.
Achieving Zero Plastic to Landfill Certification further reinforces AG’s wider sustainability strategy. Alongside internationally recognised certifications including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing, the certification demonstrates the company’s ongoing commitment to responsible manufacturing, resource efficiency and environmental stewardship. It also reflects AG’s wider ambition to continually improve operational performance while reducing its environmental impact across its manufacturing operations.
Commenting on the achievement, Aaron Marshall, Co-Founder of the Responsible Plastic Management (RPM) Program, said:
“Congratulations to AG Paving + Building Products on becoming the first manufacturing company in Northern Ireland to achieve the RPM Program’s Zero Plastic to Landfill Certification for both their Fivemiletown and Toomebridge sites. This is a significant achievement that demonstrates genuine environmental leadership and a clear commitment to responsible plastic management.
Through effective waste segregation, eliminating plastic sent to landfill, and maximising recycling and recovery, AG has demonstrated how practical, site-level action can deliver meaningful environmental outcomes. This achievement also highlights the importance of collaboration, with AG working closely alongside its waste management partner to establish fully traceable recovery routes and robust environmental controls.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in achieving this certification, with special recognition to Cathy Maguire and Steven Curley from AG, together with Ryan Bogue and the entire Skip Services team, for their commitment, professionalism and support throughout the certification process. AG has set an important benchmark for manufacturing organisations across Northern Ireland and provides an excellent example of how responsible plastic management can be successfully embedded into everyday operations.”
Cathy Maguire, HSEQ Manager at AG Paving + Building Products, said:
“Achieving Zero Plastic to Landfill Certification is an important milestone for AG and reflects the work taking place across our sites to manage resources more responsibly. It required close collaboration between our HSEQ team, colleagues across the business and Skip Services to understand every plastic waste stream and establish clear, traceable recovery routes. While we are proud of this achievement, our focus remains on preventing waste at source and continuing to identify practical improvements that support a more circular approach across our operations.”
The Responsible Plastic Management (RPM) Program is proud to recognise organisations that are taking practical, measurable action to improve responsible plastic management and reduce environmental impact. As the first manufacturing company in Northern Ireland to achieve Zero Plastic to Landfill Certification, AG Paving + Building Products has established an important benchmark for the manufacturing sector, demonstrating that responsible plastic management can be successfully integrated into everyday operations through collaboration, continuous improvement and independently verified environmental performance.
Congratulations once again to everyone at AG Paving + Building Products, with special recognition to Cathy Maguire, Steven Curley and the wider AG team, together with Ryan Bogue and the team at Skip Services, on this outstanding achievement. We look forward to continuing our partnership with AG as the company continues to strengthen responsible plastic management and sustainable manufacturing across its operations.
