What developments have you made in your responsible plastic management journey?
Flynn’s responsible plastic management journey has been embedded within our wider sustainability and waste reduction strategy, supported by formal policies and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key developments include:
- Eliminating and reducing plastic waste at source: Through our Waste Management Policy, we prioritise avoiding and minimising high-volume waste streams, including packaging plastics, and actively favour suppliers who remove or reduce packaging as part of their service.
- Maximising reuse and recycling of plastic materials: We implement Site Waste Management Plans on every project to segregate waste streams (including wrapping plastics) and maximise recycling rates, supported by monthly reporting from waste partners to track performance and drive improvement.
- Embedding responsible sourcing and material selection: Our procurement approach encourages the use of materials with recycled content and sustainable alternatives, reducing reliance on virgin plastics and improving circularity across the supply chain.
- Engagement with the Responsible Plastic Management (RPM) Programme: We have become an engaged member of the RPM programme, providing access to plastic literacy training and structured support to develop short- and medium-term strategies for reducing plastic use and improving environmental performance.
What responsible plastic management achievements have you made in 2026 so far?
Flynn is moving beyond compliance toward a more proactive, data-driven approach—focusing on reduction at source, improved recycling outcomes, and supply chain engagement, supported by formal accreditation and training through the RPM programme.
How has RPM Program assisted in your Journey?
The RPM Programme has provided Flynn with a structured framework and expert support to accelerate our responsible plastic management journey and translate ambition into measurable action.
Key ways RPM has assisted:
- Supporting social value and tender outcomes: RPM has helped align our plastic reduction efforts with public-sector social value criteria, strengthening our scoring potential and ensuring our initiatives are measurable and aligned to client expectations.
- External validation and credibility: Becoming an RPM Engaged Member demonstrates our commitment to responsible plastic management, providing independent recognition that enhances our brand and reinforces our sustainability credentials in bids and stakeholder communications.
What are your 2026 Plastic Free July goals?
- For Plastic Free July 2026, Flynn’s goals focus on building on our RPM engagement and accelerating practical, measurable reductions in plastic use across our operations and supply chain.
- Embed plastic awareness across the workforce: Roll out RPM Plastic Literacy Training to key staff to increase awareness and drive behavioural change across both office and site teams.
- Engage the supply chain in plastic reduction: Work with suppliers and subcontractors to minimise packaging, increase use of recycled-content materials, and support responsible sourcing aligned with our ethical procurement policies.
- Establish baseline data and targets: Use the RPM framework to baseline our plastic consumption and set measurable reduction targets, supporting improved reporting and future Social Value commitments.
